Published by Future-Drugs. ISSN: 1476-0584.The vaccine field has been transformed by the technological advances of the past decade. We are now beginning to visualize the future impact of vaccines, in terms of both healthcare and economics. Prophylactic vaccines continue to offer a revolution in quality of life, particularly among the populations of developing countries. Expansion of the field into the area of therapeutic vaccines is set to change radically the wider perception of vaccines in the healthcare and R&D communities. Rapid advances are anticipated with the prospect of therapeutic vaccines for the treatment of AIDS, cancer and other major diseases. There remain many challenges in the delivery of cost-effective, safe vaccines. Expert Review of Vaccines provides structured, informed commentary on the development and application of new vaccines and vaccine technologies, with all articles subject to rigorous peer-review.
